Carla_Kaplan-editedThe White Women of the Black Renaissance

Take a fresh look at a rich cultural movement with Carla Kaplan, author of Miss Anne: White Women of the Black Renaissance. Considered scandalous by whites and disdained by some blacks, these iconoclastic women – some Jewish – were mostly highsociety. Among them were Barnard College founder Annie Nathan Meyer, Texas heiress Josephine Cogdell Schuyler and novelist Fannie Hurst.
